AASA Mission

The mission of African American Student Affairs (AASA) is to facilitate a support system that helps students achieve academic excellence and an enriching African American cultural experience at the University of Arizona. AASA provides programs and services that enable students to develop leadership skills as well as the resources to develop and create personal excellence.

This mission is achieved by addressing four core areas key to student success: Academic Support, Cultural Explorations, Student Leadership Development, and Education and Community Outreach.

ACADEMIC SUPPORT

Academic support includes a variety of assistance ranging from personal, one-on-one monitoring of grades and tutoring to honoring those students who achieve academic excellence. The center is diligently working to provide state of the art computers and comfortable study areas for the students to utilize.

CULTURAL EXPLORATIONS

Appreciation for the African American cultural heritage is celebrated throughout the entire year and highlighted during the annual MLK Celebration through the months of January through May.

STUDENT LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

AASA provides varied opportunities for students to hone their leadership skills including participation in community service and in the UA's leadership workshops.

EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH

AASA extends a welcome to the University and Tucson community while building a foundation of long-term partnerships.
